How to Build a Six-Figure Sports Training Business

A six-figure sports training business is not a mystery. It is math. And the math is simpler than most coaches think.

One hundred thousand dollars a year is $8,333 a month. That is not an empire. That is a well-run training business with the right offer, the right customers, and a simple way to sell it. This is Part 1 of how coaches actually get there.

The math is simpler than you think

Most trainers try to reach six figures by stacking sessions. At $75 a session, you would need about 111 sessions a month — roughly 28 a week — every single month of the year. No cancellations. No slow season. No burnout. That is not a plan. That is a grind with a ceiling.

Now look at it the other way. Ten clients at $10,000 a year is $100,000. Twenty-five clients at $4,000 is $100,000. Seventeen clients at $6,000 is six figures. The path to $100K is not more hours. It is a different offer.

That is the entire shift in Part 1 of this build: stop thinking about how many sessions you can fit in a week, and start thinking about how many committed clients you need at the right price. If you are still stuck on session pricing, start with how much you should actually be charging — the math there sets up everything below.

Sell programs, not sessions

The coaches doing six figures and beyond sell programs. A 6- to 12-month commitment with a defined outcome, priced between $3,000 and $10,000 per client. Not an hour of your time. A result with a beginning, middle, and end.

Parents and players do not buy drills. They buy outcomes — making varsity, earning a starting spot, building real confidence on the court or the field. A program gives that outcome a container: a name, a length, and a promise. Sessions give them a price per hour to compare against every other trainer in town.

Programs also change your economics. One $6,000 client replaces 80 sessions at $75. You serve fewer people, deliver a better experience, and free up your calendar for the work that actually grows the business — talking to the next client.

Get the right customers

Here is the doctrine that decides everything: the quality of the customer determines the success of the business.

At $60 a session, you attract price-shoppers. They cancel. They no-show. They haggle. They treat your training like a commodity because you priced it like one.

At $5,000 for a six-month program, you attract committed families. They show up. They do the work. They get results — and those results become your testimonials, which become your next wave of clients. The offer filters the customer. Better customers mean better results, better retention, and a business that compounds instead of restarting every month.

Most trainers in this industry with 50 to 100 clients are broke. The ones running real programs at real prices do six figures with far fewer clients and far less chaos. The difference was never the coaching.

Sell through conversations

None of this requires a funnel, a webinar, or a marketing degree. It requires conversations with parents and players about where they are and where they want to be.

The formula is straightforward: find the families who are serious, talk to them, learn what they want for their kid, and offer the program as the way to get there. One real conversation a day beats a hundred cold leads, because you are qualifying as you talk — revenue, commitment, fit — before anyone is ever offered a spot.

That is the whole sales system at this level. Not scripts that feel like scripts. Conversations that uncover whether the client is right for the program. If they are, you tell them so. If they are not, you move on. Simple, honest, and it works. If client acquisition is your bottleneck, this is the place to fix it: how trainers actually get private clients.

Real coaches who did it

This is not theory. Coaches in basketball and soccer have walked this exact path — from sessions to programs, from grinding hours to real revenue.

One basketball trainer went from a side hustle to $108K in 182 days. He did not do it by training more hours. He did it by changing what he sold.

Another built his private basketball skills training business to $301,000 in a single year. Programs, committed clients, simple sales conversations — the same three levers, executed consistently.

The pattern is the same every time. Nobody crossed $100K by being the cheapest option in their market or by coaching the most sessions. They crossed it by building a real business around what they already knew how to do: coach.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to build a six-figure sports training business?

It depends on where you start. A coach who already has clients and switches to programs can move fast — some of Ben's clients have hit $100K within their first year on the model. The lever is the offer, not the timeline. Selling $75 sessions will never compound the way $5,000 programs do.

Do I need a facility to do six figures?

No. Most of the coaches at six figures train at rented courts, fields, or parks. A facility is overhead, not a prerequisite. Fix the offer and the customer first; the facility comes later if the business actually needs one.

Does this work for every sport?

Ben works with basketball and soccer trainers — those are the markets he knows deeply. The math and the principles hold for any private training business, but the proof he points to is in basketball and soccer. If you coach another sport, the model still applies, just with less sport-specific guidance from him.

How many clients do I actually need?

Fewer than you think. Ten clients at $10,000 is $100K. Seventeen at $6,000 is $100K. Twenty-five at $4,000 is $100K. Pick the price point you can sell with a straight face, do the division, and that number becomes your entire business plan. If you are starting from zero, starting a training business from scratch covers the first-client steps.
